General Brown Central School District residents approved the proposed 2010-11 spending plan Tuesday, May 18, by 67 votes. More than 1000 voters went to the polls, casting 562 "yes" votes and 495 "no" votes. The approved $19,908,686 budget represents a 3.32% cut in spending from last year and a 3.9% tax levy increase. Also approved 645-378 was a separate proposition to purchase three new school buses. Board of Education candidates Tasha Richardson and Bruce Strough were elected to fill two open seats vacated by board members Lori McAvoy and Ginnie Savage, who chose not to seek re-election. The new members were elected to three-year terms that begin July 1. "We are pleased that the residents of our district turned out to support our schools and our students," Business Administrator Michele Traynor said. "This has been a very challenging budget process, and we are gratified by the voters' acceptance of the spending plan." |
