Peer relationships and other social issues have a significant impact on a student’s performance in school. Group counseling provides students with a confidential, structured and safe setting to interact with other students, discuss specific situations, learn and practice skills, and have fun together. Children often take comfort in sharing their feelings and experiences with others in similar situations as it allows them to recognize that they are not alone. Lunch Bunch Groups are counseling groups that meet during lunch/recess times so that no instruction time is lost. Lunch Bunch Groups are conducted in grades K-6, based on student needs. Groups typically meet once per 6 day cycle for 6-8 sessions. Students are recommended for the groups by teachers, staff, and/or parents/guardians. In group we explore a range of topics including: friendship, self-esteem, social skills, anger management, school success, changing families, etc. This is done through the use of discussions, activities, role plays, lessons, books, games, etc.
