Junior-Senior High School
Dear Parents/Guardians,
I would like to officially welcome all of you to the 2025-2026 school year! I hope summer was relaxing and enjoyable for everyone. Open House is scheduled for Tuesday, September 9 from 5:30 PM – 6:30 PM. We realize this is a change from past years but due to the construction, we needed to allow our contractors and custodians additional time to ready the building.
The first day of school will be Tuesday, September 2nd. 7th grade students should report to the Auditorium where they will meet their 1st period teacher. The teacher will escort them to their classroom. All other students in grades 8-12 will report to their 1st period class. New students to the District can report to the Counseling Office if they need assistance navigating to their 1st period class.
Students and parents in grades 7-12 will be able to see their schedules on SchoolTool/Parentportal starting at 9:00 AM on August 29. 7th grade students will not be able to log-in but will receive an updated password on the first day. All parents with access last year to the portal will be able to log-in. All students (including 7th graders) will receive a paper copy of their schedule during 1st Period class on September 2. Counselors will start looking at schedule changes the first day of school on September 2 for students with scheduling conflicts.
I am excited to start another year as the Principal at General Brown Jr.-Sr. High School. I have worked in the District since 1994 in various roles and reside in the District with my wife and two kids. As an alum of General Brown, I feel honored to work with our highly qualified and dedicated staff, our wonderful students, and all of the supportive parents/guardians. Our new teachers and staff are eager to join the General Brown community and work with us to achieve the goals set forth by the District’s Strategic Action Plan. September will be a time we reconnect and see the awesome changes that our building and campus are undergoing. The upcoming school year will bring sweeping updates to the Music rooms, Auditorium, and Food and Consumer Science rooms. I look forward to an exciting and productive year for all of us.
Mr. Joseph Folino is our Jr.-Sr. High School Assistant Principal/Athletics Director. Mr. Folino is starting his sixth year in Administration and has a strong background in Special Education. Mr. Folino and I believe in a student-centered approach making sure all students have a safe and fulfilling academic and athletic experience at General Brown. We look forward to working with our parents, students, teachers and staff and continue General Brown’s excellent tradition in education, extra-curricular activities and athletics.
Mr. Brian Nortz will again serve as the Athletics Coordinator. Mr. Nortz currently serves as our Global Studies 9 teacher. Mr. Folino and I are pleased to have Mr. Nortz assist our students in their extra-curricular activities and understand the value they have for our students and families.
Our custodians and student summer workers have readied the building for the arrival of our faculty, staff and students in September. With a construction project brings lots of dust and debris so the staff has worked tremendously hard to keep the school as clean as possible.
I would like to invite you to visit our District website. This will serve as a resource for all upcoming events and important reminders. ParentSquare and StudentSquare (grades 9-12), will once again allow for direct communication to students from administration, teachers, class/club advisors and coaches.
Obviously, the biggest news heading into the school year is the State law prohibiting students from using personal internet-enabled devices—such as smartphones, tablets, and smartwatches—throughout the entire school day in public schools. All of our students have an email assigned to them and we encourage parents and students to use that means for communication throughout the day. We also have phones available for use and can get messages to students throughout the day from a parent.
As Principal, my door is always open and I welcome your input. I encourage you to discuss any concerns, suggestions, or ideas that you may have with me so we make our Jr.-Sr. High School the best it can be. Mr. Folino and I have one simple word that we use to guide our school; Respect. We ask all staff and students to respect our school, respect each other, and respect themselves. If we all follow this simple rule, we can all have a successful school year.
Mr. Folino and I will continue to make the safety of our students and staff our first priority. Mrs. Christine Kennedy, School Safety Officer, School Counselors (Mrs. Augliano, Mrs. Pritchard, and Ms. Swan), Mrs. O’Riley (Social Worker), Mr. Milkowich (Pivot Counselor) are dedicated to assisting us maintain a safe building in addition to supporting our students. We ask you to encourage your student to reach out to any one of us for assistance. In addition to these staff members, our teachers and support staff will always be a source of guidance and support for students.
Warm regards,
Dave Ramie
