Response to Intervention (RTI)
Response to Intervention (RTI) is a multi-step approach to providing services and interventions to struggling learners at increasing levels of intensity. RTI allows for early intervention by providing academic supports rather than waiting for a child to fail before offering help. RTI encompasses frequent progress monitoring and applying student data for responsive decision‐making. RTI is a general education initiative to maximize the effectiveness of academic instruction for all students.
General Brown’s RTI model includes reading screenings for all students in Grades K-3. Based on the screening data, students who score below a specified threshold are identified as at-risk for future reading difficulties. Those identified students receive interventions at increasing levels of intensity until they are considered no longer at-risk based on progress monitoring data.
