AIS (Academic Intervention Service)

Academic Intervention Services (AIS) are designed to help students achieve the state learning standards in English Language Arts, Mathematics and Science in grades 3-12. These services include two components:

  1. Additional instruction that supplements the general curriculum (regular classroom instruction) and/or
  2. Student support services needed to address barriers to improve academic performance

All Academic Intervention Services are provided by qualified, appropriately-certified professional staff. Parents and AIS teachers are encouraged to communicate throughout the year and create a partnership that will support learning and provide a successful education for all children of the General Brown Central School District.

The New York State Education Department has mandated that school districts provide AIS to students who have scored at a Level 1 or 2 on a State Exam, or are at-risk of not achieving the NY State Learning Standards. The AIS program may be designed in a variety of ways, depending on the level of service that is required by each individual student. Students with the most intense needs may receive more scheduled services, for a longer duration, and with more individualization. Students with the least intensive needs may receive progress monitoring as a student support.
